ISLPR Language Services Blog
Formatting: Dates
Dates can be written in varying formats depending on the variety of English used.
Any of these is acceptable:
16th March, 2017 | 16/3/2017 | Australian or British English |
16 March, 2017 | 16/3/2017 | Australian or British English |
March 16th, 2017 | 3/16/2017 | American English |
March 16, 2017 | 3/16/2017 | American English |
Monday, 10th April, 2017 |
Monday, 10 April, 2017 |
Note that we say, for example,” the 16th of March” but we don’t usually write “the” or “of”
March 16, 2017 is potentially confusing especially if the comma is omitted.
My personal preference is for the second, however any of the formats above are correct.
